DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's soccer team fell in a hard fought, 1-0 loss to Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening. The Nighthawks fell to 8-2-1 with the loss and 4-1-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.
Despite out-shooting the Hurricanes 18 to three, UNG was unable to find the back of the net in the loss.
GSW mustered its only goal of the game in the 48th minute as Cassidy Brunner received a through ball from Jocelyn Ramos and had nothing but green grass in front of her. Brunner slotted her shot past the Nighthawk keeper to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes would not record another shot in the game.
While UNG had a number of chances in the final minutes to even the score, GSW ultimately held the Nighthawks off the score sheet to hang on for its first ever victory over UNG.
Now the Nighthawks will look to regroup when they face Clayton State on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Pink Out game will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness before UNG and the Lakers kick off at 5 p.m.
