YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia baseball team ended its season in the Peach Belt Conference tournament, falling just short 10-9 against Young Harris at Zell B. Miller Field.
After an 11-5 win over Lander in their first elimination game of the day, the Nighthawks needed the win over YHC to advance to the conference semifinals.
The Nighthawks scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth but couldn't put across another in the ninth to tie the game and send it to extras.
Justin Bailey led UNG offensively, finishing with two hits in four at-bats, adding two RBIs in the game.
Josh Sosa matched Bailey's run production with a two-run home run in the fourth to tie the game at 7-7.
Jaret Bales highlighted the Nighthawks on the hill, finishing with two and two-thirds innings in relief. Bales kept the Nighthawks within striking distance, allowing no runs on just two hits.
The Nighthawks wrap up the season at 29-24 and 16-14 in PBC play.
