DAHLONEGA – A dominant effort by the No. 21 University of North Georgia men's tennis team took down No. 41 Young Harris (9-6) as the Nighthawks breezed through to a 7-0 victory over the Mountain Lions in Peach Belt Conference action at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
UNG took the doubles point, winning all three matches before taking all six singles matches, four in straight sets, en route to their seventh victory this season.
Joaquin Benoit and
Cole Brainard started the day with a 6-1 victory in doubles before
Giulio Sassi and
Daniel Ostap finished with a 6-3 result to clinch the doubles point.
Robin Eldin and
Eliseo Alcalde added a 6-4 result to sweep the doubles portion of the day.
Benoit stayed hot, rolling through to a singles win 6-0, 6-0 in a dominant performance by the sixth-ranked player in NCAA Division II. Sassi finished a 6-1, 6-2 victory, and Alcade took care of business, finishing with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Eldin wrapped up the straight-set results for the Nighthawks with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
Christopher Cahour and Brainard came out on top in a pair of battles to clinch the sweep as Cahour finished with a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 win, taking the tiebreaker set 10-4. Brainard came alive in the third set as he took a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win in the #2 singles flight.
