COLUMBUS, Ga. – Avenging its Peach Belt Conference Tournament loss, the No. 25 University of North Georgia tennis team made amends by taking down 22nd-ranked Augusta 4-0 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional opening round at Columbus State's Walden Tennis Center.
The Nighthawks took the doubles point despite dropping the #1 flight.
Daniel Ostap and
Giulio Sassi earned a 6-2 win in the #2 flight, followed by
Robin Eldin and
Eliseo Alcalde taking a closely contested 7-5 result to put North Georgia ahead 1-0.
Joaquin Benoit rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the #1 singles flight giving UNG a 2-0 lead, with
Cole Brainard earning a 6-3, 6-1 win to put the Nighthawks on the brink of victory. Ostap closed out a 6-3, 6-3 result advancing North Georgia to their seventh Round of 32 appearance in program history.
Every Nighthawk in the lineup was part of a win on the day, with Ostap taking two, one in singles and one in doubles.
