MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A wild finish in the third and final game of the University of North Georgia baseball team's 7-5 victory over Georgia College (14-16, 11-7) propelled the Nighthawks to a road Peach Belt Conference series win. Both sides added three runs in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings. North Georgia tacked on two in the top of the tenth and held firm in the bottom half to take the series-clinching victory.
The two Nighthawks at the top of the order recorded four of the eight UNG hits as
Jace Bowen and
Riley Frost paired up for two each as both added an RBI and Bowen scored twice.
Daniel Courtney pitched eight innings in the game, allowing three runs on six hits, and settled in until the ninth after giving up two runs in the fourth inning.
Reid Howard (W, 2-1) got North Georgia out of a jam in the ninth and shut down the Bobcat lineup in the tenth to earn the win.
Tim Conway drew two walks and added one hit, joining three other Nighthawks with one hit as
Mason Steel,
Andrews Opata and
Jack Davis all added hits for UNG.
North Georgia used a bit of small ball to make the defense work in the tenth as
Justin Bailey reached on a bunt fielders choice to drive in the game-winning run. Georgia College allowed a second run to score on the play on a throwing error at first base to give the Nighthawks a bit of cushion heading into the bottom half.
