DAHLONEGA – A 1-0 victory in the second game for the University of North Georgia baseball team highlighted the two-game split for the Nighthawks against Lander (8-17, 5-6 PBC) at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Bearcats took the first game 6-4, holding onto the lead after a North Georgia comeback attempt late.
North Georgia, 4 Lander, 6
Jacob Lassiat highlighted the Nighthawks' pitching staff in the first game, throwing four innings while allowing no runs on just three hits. The North Georgia lineup was quiet early, but three runs in the last three innings put them close, falling just short.
Brady Skipper and
Josh Sosa recorded two hits in the game, while
Edwin Bowman IV drove in two of the Nighthawks' four runs. Seven Nighthawks recorded hits, with Skipper and Sosa the only ones to reach the multi-hit club.
North Georgia, 1 Lander, 0
The Nighthawks continued to build on their bounce-back game reputation, with
Wes Lott (W, 3-2) adding another gem to the Nighthawks' jewelry box, throwing eight innings, allowing no runs and just two hits.
Zach Green (S, 1) entered in the ninth, finishing up the Nighthawks shutout and earning the save in the process.
North Georgia failed to produce much run production, but they produced enough, with
Justin Bailey leading the way with two hits in four at-bats, driving in the Nighthawks' lone run of the game.
