DAHLONEGA – On Saturday afternoon, the No. 11 University of North Georgia men's tennis team defeated Tusculum (3-3) in non-conference action at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek. North Georgia took an early 1-0 lead after doubles, but the Pioneers made it a 3-2 score with two singles matches remaining. Two straight-set victories in flights five and six for North Georgia would seal the 5-2 victory.
Joaquin Benoit and
Cole Brainard helped North Georgia earn the doubles point by winning 6-1 in the first doubles match.
Robin Eldin and
Daniel Ostap finished the job, rolling to a 6-2 final to secure the 1-0 lead.
Benoit and Brainard continued the momentum in singles, each taking three-set victories. Eldin and
Giulio Sassi took straight-set victories to finish the job, with Eldin cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Sassi emerged from a tough battle with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the #6 singles flight.
Next Up
North Georgia will head back on the road for a Peach Belt Conference road match against Augusta (4-0) on Tuesday (Feb. 21). It will be the 18th matchup between the two programs, with UNG putting a six-match win streak on the line.
