YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — A dominant effort in the second game of the season for the University of North Georgia women's basketball team led to an 88-53 victory for the Nighthawks to wrap up their appearance at the Peach Belt/Conference Carolinas Challenge.
Emily Trushel and
Ansley Hall highlighted a potent attack on offense, both shooting 7-13 from the field as Trushel poured in a team-high 27 points, adding nine rebounds and shooting 10-12 from the line. Hall continued to be a key part of the offense, adding 23 points and shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc.
Dasha Cannon was the leading rebounder, grabbing 12 boards and scoring 12 points for a double-double. The North Georgia defense held YHC to just 36.9% shooting from the field, playing solid defensively despite only earning two steals.
UNG made a run in the first quarter, outscoring Young Harris 20-6 before adding to the lead in each quarter. The 20 points in the first quarter was one of three quarters in the game where North Georgia scored 20+ points. On the offensive glass, the Nighthawks were aggressive, picking up 15 offensive rebounds, compared to just five for Young Harris.
Next for North Georgia is the home opener, kicking off the UNG Nighthawk Classic at Lynn Cottrell Arena in the UNG Convocation Center. The Nighthawks will face Tusculum in the first matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 17) before facing Lincoln Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 18).
