Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A tale of two halves and quality over quantity led the University of North Georgia men's soccer team to their first win of the season with 3-1 victory on the road at the University of Alabama.
The first half went UAH's way in almost every category, UAH had 16 shots, while UNG had just one shot in the half. UAH put 10 of those shots on frame. UNG goalkeeper
Hazel Ley dealt with all but one of those ten shots and kept UNG in the game heading into the halftime break down just one goal.
After the halftime break, a different North Georgia squad took the field in Huntsville.
A free kick in the 50th minute was sent down the field, eventually finding
Max Garnett, who took UNG's buried home the equalizer. The assist was credited to
Will Bentley.
The Nighthawks' second shot of the half, and third of the game, came 10 minutes later in the 60th minute when
Mikail Prince took advantage of a misplay by the UAH defense and found
Haden Davis, who pushed it past the keeper to take the 2-1 lead.
After just eight fouls and no cards for either side in the first half, the second half featured 19 fouls with three yellow cards handed out for each side.
In the 72nd minute,
Payge Sinclair placed a perfect shot from the right side of the box that sailed just over the goalkeeper's reach, putting North Georgia ahead by two and helping to secure the victory.
