AMERICUS, Ga. - The University of North Georgia baseball team had a tough day at the plate as they fell to Georgia Southwestern Saturday, 8-1, in the opening game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinal Series.
GSW jumped out quickly, plating a quartet of runs in the first off a pair of doubles and a sacrifice fly. The Hurricanes didn't stop there, scoring again in the second on a RBI single before a pair of RBI singles in the third put the lead at 7-0.
Georgia Southwestern scored their final run of the day in the fifth off a bases loaded groundout to push the advantage to 8-0 before
Cade Heil tripled in the eighth to score
Will Hardigree for the Nighthawks' lone run of the contest.
NOTES
- North Georgia struck out 13 times in the game, only recording four hits while leaving six on base.
- GSW has now won nine of the last 13 games in the series.
NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will have to win tomorrow's second game of the series at 1 p.m. to force a winner advances scenario in what would be the nightcap of a doubleheader tomorrow. If the 'Canes win the 1 p.m. contest, they advance to the double elimination bracket next weekend.
