DAHLONEGA - Despite scoring first, the University of North Georgia baseball team fell Friday night to No. 3 Columbus State, 9-2, in the Peach Belt Conference series opener.
The Nighthawks manufactured a run in the bottom of the first, getting
Crews Taylor and
Tim Conway on ahead of
Jorge Arispuro who brought home the game's first run to put UNG out in front. The Cougars didn't waste time answering, blasting a three-run homer over the left field wall in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead. CSU scored a trio of runs in the third as well to extend the lead on a solo homer and a two RBI double.
North Georgia plated another run in the bottom of the third on a
Jake Arnold RBI single, cutting the lead to 6-2, but Columbus State used a RBI single in the sixth, a solo homer in the eighth and a RBI single in the ninth to reach the final 9-2 score.

Will Hardigree all finished with two hits on the day to lead the Nighthawks at the plate.

Josh Sosa recorded his first collegiate triple on his first career hit.
- North Georgia had 10 hits on the day, matching CSU, but left 12 runners on base and only had two extra-base hits.

The two teams will tangle again tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the annual Operation Nighthawks of Honor ceremony preceding first pitch.
