GREENWOOD, S.C. - The No. 25 University of North Georgia baseball team got the Peach Belt Conference portion of their schedule underway with a 5-1 win over Lander Friday night.
North Georgia got things started in the top of the first as
Nik Levensteins had a RBI single and then came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Nighthawks a 2-0 lead. After a sacrifice fly for the Bearcats cut the lead in half, Levensteins stepped up again with another RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead back to 3-1.
UNG put the game away in the eighth when
Crews Taylor plated two runs on a bases loaded single to push the lead out to the final score. From there,
Jake Arnold shut the door, earning his first save of the season.
NOTES
- Arnold finished the day at the plate 4-for-4 while earning the save on the mound, fanning four over his 3.2 innings of two-hit baseball.
Cade Heil (3-1) earned the win, striking out four as well over 5.1.
- Taylor finished 3-for-5 at the dish, while Levensteins was 2-for-5.
