No. 5 Women's Basketball Season Comes to Close in Semifinal Loss to No. 24 Western Washington

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 5 University of North Georgia women's basketball team saw their historic season come to a close Wednesday night in the national semifinals, falling to No. 24 Western Washington, 74-68.

North Georgia took the early advantage, using a 12-4 run to jump out to a 19-11 lead late in the first period. The Vikings battled back to tie the game at 27-27 early in the second period, but UNG continued to fight and clung to a 38-37 lead at intermission.

Western Washington took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring North Georgia 19-13 in the period, including starting the period on an 11-2 run. The Nighthawks could never get closer than six down the stretch.

NOTES
- Caroline Martin finished with a game high 28 points, including going 15-for-18 from the charity stripe. Julianne Sutton finished with 17 points and eight boards.

- The Nighthawks shot just 8-for-29 in the second half.

- North Georgia finishes the season 29-4 with the senior class of Jamari McDavid, Abbie Franklin and Sutton combining for four PBC Tournament Championships, three league regular season championships and two Elite Eight appearances.
