ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 25 University of North Georgia baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader at Flagler, falling in the opener before avoiding a sweep to the Saints with a win in the nightcap.
GAME 1 - FC 8, UNG 0
The Saints jumped out to the early lead in the first inning, scoring off a single to take a 1-0 lead. Three innings later, Flagler doubled its lead on a bases loaded hit by pitch before they blew the game open in the fifth, scoring four runs off a three-run homer and a RBI single to take a 6-0 lead.
Flagler didn't stop there, scoring two more in the sixth off a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to get to the final score.
GAME 2 - UNG 7, FC 3 (7 inn.)
The North Georgia bats finally came alive in the third game of the series, starting with four runs in the first inning. After a Saint error plated the first Nighthawk run,
Nik Levensteins hit a long ball that cleared the wall in right center to score two more. The scoring in the frame ended with a RBI single from
Jorge Arispuro.
After Flagler got one back in the bottom of the first, North Georgia extended the lead back out to 5-1 on a
Kaleb Freeman RBI double in the second inning. The Saints trimmed the lead to 5-3 in the fourth inning, but solo homers by
Jake Arnold in the fifth and
Crews Taylor in the sixth got the game to its final score.
NOTES
- Taylor finished a single away from the cycle in game two, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Jay Pendley (3-0) got the win in game two, going four innings while Arnold got his second save of the year, finishing out the game.
NEXT UP
North Georgia will play a non-conference game at home Wednesday to start a 10-game homestand. West Georgia will be the opponent at 5 p.m. inside Bob Stein Stadium.
