DAHLONEGA - An upset-minded Clayton State team took advantage of a cold shooting night as they took down the No. 11 University of North Georgia women's basketball team, 68-56, Wednesday night.
Julianne Sutton became the first player in the NCAA era to surpass 2,000 career points, hitting the milestone with the first point of the game. The Lakers led a majority of the first half after that, but it was North Georgia who led 28-27 at the break.
Clayton State stormed away in the third quarter, outscoring the Nighthawks 19-7 in the period. Early in the third quarter,
Abbie Franklin recorded her third assist of the day to break the all-time assist record at UNG, marking another notch in her outstanding career.
NOTES
- Franklin surpassed the mark set by Kim Felton back in the NAIA era from 1995-99.
- Sutton led all scorers, recording a double-double of 25 points and 11 boards.
Caroline Martin added 15.
- North Georgia had no points outside of their starting lineup.
- The back-to-back losses are the first for the women's basketball program since falling on January 16 and 18, 2017.
