DAHLONEGA - Down 4-1 headed to the seventh, the University of North Georgia baseball team tried to mount a comeback on Opening Day, but fell short in a 5-4 loss to No. 16 Lee Friday night inside Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia struck first, using a walk to
Tim Conway and a
Kaleb Freeman RBI double to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Lee answered in the top of the second with a RBI single and took the lead two innings later on another RBI base knock.
After the Flames scored twice in the sixth,
Jake Arnold cut the lead to 4-3 on a two-run blast to left center in the seventh. Lee responded with another RBI single in the eighth before the Nighthawks had one more go at the come back, scoring on a Freeman RBI single in the ninth to get to the final score.
NOTES
- Freeman and Arnold led the way, each going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Cade Heil (0-1) went 5.1 innings in the start, surrendering four runs on eight hits.
Cameron Mobley,
Beau Jones and
Zach Green combined to give up just one run on two hits out of the bullpen.
- North Georgia left 11 runners on base, including seven over the last three innings.
