Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of North Georgia men's soccer team was eliminated from the Peach Belt Conference tournament after a 4-2 defeat against Clayton State.
Alejandro DeVillena and
Joe McInnes each scored a goal to try and keep UNG's season alive, but the Lakers' four goals were too many to overcome.
Clayton State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, scoring goals in the 9th, 22nd, and 26th minutes. McInnes scored late in the second half with a 42nd-minute goal off an assist from
Dawid Zajac. The halftime whistle would blow, and both teams went into the locker room with the Lakers holding a 3-1 lead.
In the 54th minute, Geo Rios of Clayton State scored his second goal of the game, making it a 4-1 deficit for the Nighthawks. DeVillena would connect the other half of a
Payge Sinclair free kick, and the duo would cut the deficit down to 4-2 with 23 minutes left in the game. The 67th-minute goal would be the final goal in the game for either side, eliminating UNG from the Peach Belt Conference tournament.
