Waldow Wins Two Three-Set Thrillers to Claim Consolation Draw Crown

BELMONT, N.C. - University of North Georgia junior Zach Waldow had to come from behind in two matches Saturday to win the ITA Southeast Regional consolation draw.

The day started out with a matchup against Belmont Abbey's Elijah Buerkle in the consolation semifinals. Waldow fell in the first set, 6-4, but answered with a 6-2 second set. In the 10-point tiebreak third set, the Loganville, Georgia, native quickly dispatched of the Crusader by a 10-4 score.

Waldow quickly turned around to take on another Crusader opponent in Gabriel Martin, whose semifinal opponent withdrew to allow Martin to advance to the final match. Waldow fell again in the first set, 6-1, but answered in the biggest way possible, shutting out Martin, 6-0, in the second set to set up another 10-point tiebreak. The Nighthawk took care of business in the tiebreak, winning 10-6.

North Georgia will be back in action on October 24-25 as they host the UNG Tennis Fall Invitational at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
