DAHLONEGA - The No. 15 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and will face fifth-seeded No. 18 Wingate on May 11.
The NCAA postseason appearance is the 12th in program history and sixth consecutive.
The Nighthawks enter postseason play with a 13-8 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in Peach Belt Conference action. North Georgia opened the PBC Tournament with a sweep of Augusta before falling to No. 4 Flagler in the semifinals.
North Georgia placed multiple players on the All-PBC teams, highlighted by Pedro Liborio and João Luis Silva, who each earned First Team honors in singles. In doubles play, the tandem of Juan Cruz Blanco and Ben Brandl secured Second Team All-Conference recognition.
The Nighthawks have found consistent success against Wingate, holding a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series. North Georgia claimed a 4-3 victory in the most recent meeting during last season's NCAA Southeast Regional.
Top-seeded Catawba will take on eighth-seeded Mount Olive in the regional's other semifinal.
The regional will be hosted by No. 1 seed Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships, set for May 20-24 in Surprise, Ariz.
