Last Week: The Nighthawks went 2-0 on the week, upsetting No. 13 Georgia College, 2-1, before a 4-1 win over Francis Marion Sunday afternoon on the road. Renee VanHorn hit two game winners on the week.
Scouting Georgia Southwestern: The Hurricanes are off to a 2-5-0 start with wins over Southern Wesleyan and Spring Hill. GSW is 0-2-0 in league play with losses to Clayton State and Georgia College.
Series Versus Georgia College: North Georgia has never lost to GSW in the 14-game history of the series. UNG has scored double digit goals in four of the last five meetings, while the 'Canes have not scored since the 2014 meeting.
Scouting USC Aiken: The Pacers are 1-3-0 on the season, but have had many games postponed or cancelled due to Hurricane Florence. They will start PBC play on Wednesday before coming to Dahlonega Saturday.
Series Versus Francis Marion: The Nighthawks lead USC Aiken, 12-2-2, in the all-time series and are unbeaten in the last 12 matchups (11-0-1). The two teams met twice last season with the Pacers nearly beating UNG in Aiken before the Nighthawks beat USCA, 9-0, in the PBC quarterfinals.
PBC Statistical Leaders: The Nighthawks continue to lead the Peach Belt Conference in goals scored, points, shots per game and corner kicks. UNG is second in the league in assists.
United Soccer Coaches Rankings: The Nighthawks are currently ranked No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, re-entering the poll for the first time since the first regular season poll of the season. North Georgia also jumped up two spots to No. 3 in the Southeast Region poll behind No. 3 Columbus State and No. 15 Carson-Newman.
PBC Standings: North Georgia is tied atop the PBC standings with Columbus State and Flagler, although the Nighthawks and Cougars have a game in hand over the Saints. Both USC Aiken and Georgia Southwestern are sitting at zero points, but USC Aiken has not yet started conference play due to the effects of Hurricane Florence.
VanHorn Named Nighthawk of the Week: Renee VanHorn was named the Einstein's Nighthawk of the Week Monday by the UNG athletic department. VanHorn pushed her team-high goal count to five as she scored in each of the Nighthawks' two wins on the week. She tallied the game-winner in UNG's 2-1 home win over No. 13 Georgia College on Wednesday. VanHorn's goal in Sunday's 4-1 road win at Francis Marion was also credited as the game-winner.
Goudy Named PBC Goalkeeper of the Week: Hannah Goudy was named the Peach Belt Goalkeeper of the Week Monday by the league office. The junior keeper from Cumming made two saves in a full 90 minutes as UNG handed No. 13 Georgia College their first loss of the season. She then made one save and gave up a goal on a PK against Francis Marion. Goudy is fourth in the PBC in goals against average and fifth in minutes played.
