INDIANAPOLIS - University of North Georgia junior
Matt Elliott was selected to participate as an individual in the 2017 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Men's Golf Championship as announced by the NCAA office on Friday afternoon.
The three-day event will be held from May 8-10 at The Shoals Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
Elliott is the first golfer from UNG to be invited to play in the NCAA Regional Championship. In order to be selected to play as an individual, a student-athlete must be from a team that did not qualify for the tournament and be one of the top four golfers in their region.Â
In 10 events this season, Elliott is the Nighthawks' top scorer with a 72.5 scoring average.  He made school history by winning the 2017 Peach Belt Conference individual medalist honors.
Elliott, ranked No. 38 in GolfStat's individual rankings, is the first North Georgia golfer to win the PBC individual championship with his first place finish also earned him a spot on the 2017 PBC All-Tournament team.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 22-26, at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Florida.
