DAHLONEGA | The 17th-ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team is set for the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals, where the second-seeded Nighthawks will take on No. 3-seed Armstrong State Friday at 2 p.m., at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia. UNG looks to improve its positioning for the NCAA Division II Tournament while also aiming to win its first ever PBC title.
After Tuesday's quarterfinals win over Flagler, UNG advanced to the semifinals for the fifth time in the past six seasons. North Georgia is 2-2 in their previous four PBC semifinal games. The Nighthawks have faced the Pirates in two of those semifinal matchups with UNG winning 3-1 in 2010 and Armstrong taking the 2012 contest, 2-1.
North Georgia and Armstrong battled to a scoreless draw in their regular season matchup earlier this season. The game was defined by over an inch of rain that fell between warm-ups and the final horn with neither team getting many clean touches on the ball throughout the match.
The winner of Friday's game will go on to face the winner of the other semifinal between No. 1-seed Columbus State and No. 4-seed Georgia College. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m., on Sunday at Blanchard Woods Park.
