UNG To Promote Make-A-Wish Week of Wishes And UNG Family Day At Saturday's Women's Soccer Match

DAHLONEGA | In conjunction with the department's annual Make-A-Wish initiative and UNG Family Day 2015, the University of North Georgia Department of Athletics has announced that Saturday's home women's soccer match will feature free admission for all spectators.  Despite the projected wet weather, the game remains scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at the UNG Soccer Complex.

North Georgia, ranked second nationally, will host the Pirates of Armstrong State in a Peach Belt Conference challenge featuring two of the league's three unbeaten teams.

In addition to the free admission as part of the Make-A-Wish Week of Wishes, the afternoon will also be UNG Family Day with various free initiatives and food.

In lieu of admission, $1 raffle tickets for a signed women's soccer ball and UNG #HawkEm t-shirts will also be sold with all proceeds going to the Nighthawks' Make-A-Wish initiative.

The UNG Patriot Choir is scheduled to sing the National Anthem before the start of the contest.

This year marks the fifth annual NCAA Division II's Week of Wishes. This national event invites all Division II institutions to help Make-A-Wish by raising funds and awareness. During this week-long celebration, Division II institutions will show their support and invite family, friends and fans to get involved through a Week of Wishes.

UNG has donated the highest amount of money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of all NCAA Division II schools in four of her previous five years and has hosted a Make-A-Wish reveal on campus for three consecutive years.

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true has positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Headquartered in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world's leading children's charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 38 minutes.
