Box Score DAHLONEGA | Barry University scored in the first three minutes of the match and held off the University of North Georgia men's soccer team by a score of 3-1 on Thursday evening at the UNG Soccer Complex. The contest was the first ever soccer game on the school's new turf field.
BU's Nico Gercke used a long cross from Ryan King in the just 3:06 into the contest to give the visiting Buccaneers a lead they would never relinquish.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Barry doubled the lead as Connor Randel buried the ball in the lower left corner following a feed from Pablo Georgakopoulos.
Manuel Hernandez cut the lead in half in the game's 61
st minute with a long arching shot over Barry's Robby Shearer in goal, but the Buccaneers iced the contest just over three minutes later when Randel found the net for the second time in the contest.
Barry outshot the Nighthawks 16-7 with only two of UNG's shots challenging Shearer.
North Georgia returns to action on Sunday, September 7 against Nova Southeastern at 11:00 a.m. at the UNG Soccer Complex.
