Four Second Half Goals Propel No. 15 Nighthawks Past West Georgia, 5-1

Box Score DAHLONEGA | The 15th-ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team erupted for four second half goals en route to a 5-1 win over West Georgia on Wednesday evening at the UNG Soccer Complex.  Sophia Matonak scored twice to lead the offensive onslaught as the Nighthawks improve to 5-1-0 on the year.

West Georgia (0-5-1) opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Katy Mixon took a through ball from Kyla Wright-Marshall to give the Wolves an early lead.

North Georgia would respond just under three minutes later when Sydney Reeder headed home the equalizer following a cross from Megan Morrow.

The score remained knotted at one apiece until the 63rd minute when Cicely Taliaferro scored her fifth tally of the year after UWG keeper Rebecca Harb was unable to collect a shot from Mollie Arrendale

Matonak registered both of her scores in the final 18 minutes sandwiched around a goal by Arrendale.

UNG blasted 34 shots at Harb compared to just three shots by the Wolves.

The Nighthawks return to action on Saturday (Sept. 20) with the team's final non-conference road challenge of the season at Belmont Abbey.
