No. 25 Railsplitters Prove Too Much for Men’s Soccer

Box Score HARROGATE, Tennessee | Nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial (4-0-0) recorded their third shutout in just their fourth game of the 2014 season Wednesday afternoon hosting North Georgia, setting the Nighthawks back to a 1-4-0 start with the 2-0 victory.
 
Neither team established a firm grip on the match early, however the Railsplitters found their way on the board in the 39th minute as Nick Boegemann headed home a cross from classmate Harry Solomons.
 
Lincoln Memorial added some insurance late in the 68th minute as Nathaniel Johnson moved forward to find himself on the end of a passage of play between Solomons and Keegan Sanders, who combined on the assist. Johnson blasted Sanders' cross into the back of the net to give LMU the to 2-0 lead, which would prove final.
 
North Georgia was outshot 18-6 advantage and 4-2 in shots on goal as 11 different Railsplitters accounted for shot attempts in the match.
 
Junior midfielder Irving Salgado was the lone Nighthawk to post multiple shot attempts as he fired off two of the team's six shots. He recorded one of UNG's two shots on goal along with senior midfielder Manuel Hernandez.
 
The Nighthawks return to the friendly confines of the UNG Soccer Complex this Saturday to open up Peach Belt play and kickoff the 2014-2015 Battle of Blood Mountain as rival Young Harris makes the short drive to Dahlonega. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will feature the inaugural Battle of Blood Mountain trophy presentation before the game.
