DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer team scored three times in the first half and cruised to a 4-1 victory over Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Field.
The Nighthawks (2-0) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Dženan Cerimagic opened the scoring in the third minute, tapping home a cross from the right side for his first goal of the season.
North Georgia continued to pressure the Buccaneers before doubling its advantage in the 32nd minute. Max Garnett chipped the ball into the box, setting up Isaac Calderon to fire a right-footed shot into the net for his second goal of the season.
Garnett assisted on both of North Georgia's first two goals, giving him 13 career assists and making him the only Nighthawk to reach that mark since at least 2004. He wasn't finished, though, adding a spectacular goal of his own just before halftime.
With the ball near midfield on the right side of the field, Garnett unleashed a shot from distance that sailed over the Christian Brothers goalkeeper and into the net to give North Georgia a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
Christian Brothers cut into the deficit with a goal in the 62nd minute, but the Nighthawks quickly regained control and sealed the victory in the closing minutes. Samuel Gomez found the back of the net for North Georgia's fourth goal of the afternoon, with Aram Lara providing the assist.
North Georgia finished the match with a 15-5 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Aleksa Lukic made one save for the Nighthawks.
The Nighthawks return to action Sept. 1, hosting Florida Tech at noon at the UNG Soccer Field.
