AMERICUS, Ga. - The No. 11 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season in dominant fashion with a 7-0 sweep of Georgia Southwestern in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Nighthawks secured the doubles point with strong play at the top and bottom of the lineup. The No. 27-ranked duo of Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova set the tone with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Sofia Giraldo and Victoria Niox-Chateau clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3. Emily Bush and Lauryn Swatski held a 4-3 lead at No. 2 before play was halted.
North Georgia carried that momentum into singles, where it did not drop a single set across six courts. Lauryn Swatski sealed the team victory at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Individually, No. 15-ranked Opolska delivered a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while No. 73-ranked Giraldo took her first set 6-1 and led 2-1 in the second before her opponent retired at No. 2. Emily Bush added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3, and Erika Terek secured the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
Louise Rey was dominant at No. 6, winning 12 consecutive games in a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
With the regular season complete, the Nighthawks now turn their attention to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, set to begin April 24 in Columbus, Georgia.
