YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 7 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team continued its winning ways by sweeping doubles and securing a 6-1 win at No. 33 Young Harris.
North Georgia (11-2) wasted no time taking control, winning the doubles point with a clean sweep and taking the first three singles matches to secure the 4-0 win.
Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes got things started at No. 2 doubles with a commanding 6-1 victory. Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova followed at No. 1 doubles with a 6-4 win to clinch the point, while Victoria Niox-Chateau and Sofia Giraldo closed out doubles play with a 6-4 decision at No. 3.
The Nighthawks carried that momentum into singles, winning the first three matches to put the contest out of reach.
Victoria Niox-Chateau was first off the court at No. 5 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to extend the lead. Olesya Stokusova followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2, and Sofia Giraldo added another straight-set victory at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Nighthawks.
Erika Terek trailed at No. 6 6-4, 2-3, Goerdes was locked in a tight battle at No. 4 and No. 10 Opolska leading her match at No. 1 when play was halted.
North Georgia returns to action March 22 facing fourth-ranked West Alabama.
