No. 7 Nighthawks Open PBC Play with Sweep Over Augusta

DAHLONEGA – The No. 7 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team opened Peach Belt Conference play in dominant fashion Wednesday, sweeping Augusta 7-0 at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.

The Nighthawks set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The top pairing of Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova secured a 6-3 victory, while Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.

Sofia Giraldo and Victoria Chateau-Niox were leading 4-3 at No. 3 before the match was abandoned.

In singles play, North Georgia continued its momentum, winning all six matches in straight sets.

No. 10-ranked Opolska led the way at the top spot with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, while No. 39 Stokusova added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2. Goerdes earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 4, and Louise Rey picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court five. Bush rounded out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6.

At No. 3 singles, Giraldo delivered a remarkable comeback. Trailing 5-0 in the opening set, Giraldo rattled off 13 consecutive games to claim a 7-5, 6-0 victory to clinch the match for the Nighthawks.

North Georgia returns to action March 19, traveling to face Young Harris.
