No. 9 North Georgia Downs No. 24 Texas Tyler, 4-1

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The No. 9 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team earned a ranked victory Thursday, defeating No. 24 Texas Tyler 4-1 at the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park.

The Nighthawks improved to 9-2 on the season with the win, securing the doubles point and claiming three singles victories before two remaining matches went unfinished.

North Georgia took an early advantage in doubles play. Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Victoria Niox-Chateau and Sofia Giraldo matched that scoreline with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for the Nighthawks. The top-flight pairing of Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova was down 3-4 when play stopped.

In singles, Opolska, ranked No. 10 nationally, delivered a strong performance at the top spot, defeating No. 11 Yona Bancarel 6-1, 6-3 to extend the UNG lead.

Niox-Chateau added another point for the Nighthawks with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles, while Bush sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Luisa Moraes at No. 6.

UT Tyler picked up its lone point at No. 2 singles, where Natalia Gorzny defeated Giraldo 6-2, 6-2.

Two matches remained unfinished after the clinch. Stokusova led Maria Antonio Ortega 6-1, 5-4 at No. 3 singles, while Goerdes trailed Carla Rodier 2-6, 5-4 at No. 4.

The Nighthawks return to action March 16 as they host Augusta to open Peach Belt Conference play.
