No. 3 North Georgia Cruises Past Newberry, 6-1

DAHLONEGA - The No. 3 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Newberry on Thursday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.

The Nighthawks jumped out to an early advantage in doubles play, highlighted by a dominant 6-0 sweep from Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova. Emily Bush and Sofia Giraldo followed with a 6-2 win to secure the doubles point.

North Georgia carried that momentum into singles competition. Opolska picked up a straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-1, before Giraldo added another point with a 6-0, 6-3 sweep. Stokusova clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision.

Linn Goerdes earned a hard-fought victory after dropping the opening set, rallying for a 6-2 second set and winning the match in a tiebreaker. Erika Terek closed out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-0 win to give the Nighthawks their sixth point.

North Georgia returns to action with an exhibition match at Mercer on Feb. 8.
