No. 3 Nighthawks Fall Just Short Against No. 9 Catawba at ITA Indoor Championship

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 3 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team came within a point of victory Saturday but fell 4-3 to No. 9 Catawba on day two of the 2026 ITA Division II Women's National Team Indoor Championship.

Catawba claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova dropped a tightly contested 7-6 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes fell 6-2 on court two. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Sofia Giraldo and Erika Terek was tied 6-6 before being abandoned once the doubles point was decided.

North Georgia responded in singles play, earning three victories to keep the match close throughout the afternoon.

Opolska evened the match early with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Sofia Antolini at No. 1 singles, and Stokusova followed with a strong 6-1, 6-4 victory against Ami Miya on court three. Louise Rey added another point for the Nighthawks with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-4 win over Kldiashvili at No. 5 singles.

Catawba secured the team victory with wins at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles. Giraldo fell to Hanna Bougouffa at No. 2, Goerdes dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4, and Bush was defeated 6-2, 6-1 on court six to clinch the match.

North Georgia will return to the courts Sunday in the seventh-place match scheduled for 10 a.m. at the ITA Indoor Championship.
