No. 9 Nighthawks Claim Third at Battle at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Behind their best round of the tournament, the No. 9 University of North Georgia women's golf team closed strong to finish third overall at the Battle at Hilton Head, hosted by Lincoln Memorial.

North Georgia carded a 291 (+3) in the final round, its lowest team score of the day, after posting a 305 (+17) in round two earlier in the day.

Cora Mount led UNG in the second round with a 74 (+2), followed by Mackenzie Connell at 75 (+3), Abby Franks at 77 (+5), Ellie Jane Riner at 79 (+7) and Camryn Wright at 82 (+10). Claire Bradford, competing as an individual, carded a 78 (+6).

Riner led the Nighthawks with a final-round 71 (-1), climbing into a tie for 10th individually. Franks followed closely, shooting 73 (+1) in round three to finish 11th overall. Connell and Mount each secured top-25 finishes, while Bradford placed 14th.

Riner's steady play paced the lineup down the stretch, while Wright added a 72 (E) in the final round to help UNG surge up the leaderboard.

Top-ranked Wingate won the 19-team event with a 54-hole score of +18 while No. 16 Lander finished runner-up, three strokes ahead of the Nighthawks. No. 34 Lincoln Memorial and No. 28 Erskine rounded out the top five. Wingate's Amely Bochaton claimed individual medalist honors with a seven-under par score, finishing 11 strokes clear of the 100-player field. 

North Georgia now turns its attention to its next tournament, returning to action Feb. 23–24 at the LR / West Dunes Intercollegiate in Mount Pleasant.
