No. 3 Nighthawks Defeat #21 Auburn-Montgomery, 6-1

DAHLONEGA - The No. 3 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery on Monday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.

North Georgia set the tone in doubles, as Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova opened play with a 6-2 win. Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes followed by clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 victory, before Auburn-Montgomery picked up its lone doubles court with a narrow 7-6 decision on court three.

Goerdes kept the momentum rolling in singles, defeating Nagisa Yonezawa 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 to push the Nighthawks in front 2-0. Stokusova added another point shortly after, earning a 6-4, 7-5 win over Mercedes Garcia Cid at No. 3.

Sofia Giraldo then clinched the team victory for North Georgia at No. 2, posting a 6-1, 7-6 result against Sophia Neri.

Opolska followed with a comeback win at the top spot, rebounding after dropping the first set to defeat Melissa Yakup Pour 1-6, 6-0, 6-2. Erika Terek later secured a three-set victory over Ana Clara Campigotto at No. 6, while Auburn-Montgomery claimed its lone point of the match as Allison Blanco outlasted Louise Rey in three sets at No. 5.

North Georgia now turns its attention to the ITA Indoor Championship in Indianapolis, where the Nighthawks will open play Feb. 20 against West Florida.
