DUE WEST, S.C. – The No. 3 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team earned a complete 7-0 road sweep of Erskine on Saturday.
North Georgia set the tone early by claiming all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. Sofia Giraldo and Erika Terek posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, while Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point. Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova rounded out the sweep with a 6-4 decision at the top spot.
The Nighthawks carried that momentum into singles play, winning every match to seal the shutout.
Opolska opened singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1, and Goerdes followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4. Giraldo added a straight-set win at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4, while Louise Rey secured the fifth point with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 5.
Terek battled through three sets at No. 6, earning a 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 tiebreak win, and Stokusova closed the match with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 comeback victory at No. 3.
North Georgia returns to action Monday, Feb. 16, hosting Auburn Montgomery at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek. Doubles play is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
