ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 4 University of North Georgia women's tennis team rolled to its 16th win of the year in a 5-2 road win at No. 9 Flagler Saturday afternoon. The Nighthawks are now 16-0 this season and have compiled four wins over ranked opponents.
In the #1 doubles match, UNG got started early as seniors Johanna Lippert and Viktorie Wojcikova took down the ITA women's doubles No. 5 combination of Nadja Meier and Dana Heiman in a 6-3 victory.
Junior Carolina Reis and senior Valentina Ascarrunz gathered for a 6-3 win in the #3 doubles match to seal the early doubles point for the Nighthawks.
In a ranked #1 singles match between UNG's No. 17 Angelina Linnikova and Flagler's No. 2 Nadja Meier, the junior Linnikova emerged victorious for her first win over an individually ranked opponent this season.
After winning the opening set 6-4, Linnikova dropped the second set as Meier won it 7-5. Then in the third set, Linnikova rallied to win 7-5 and take the match.
Wojcikova also defeated a ranked opponent in the #2 singles match, defeating No. 40 Dana Heimen in three sets.
Heimen took the first set comfortably 6-2, but Wojcikova answered with a 7-6 (7-2 tiebreaker) win in the second before taking the third set 6-4.
Junior Ashley Moinard took the #4 singles match with a pair of 7-5 wins to help clinch the Nighthawk victory.
Lippert added to her doubles win with a victory in the #3 singles match over Flagler's Leonie Floeth in three sets.
Now UNG prepares for another PBC contest back home tomorrow, Sunday, Apr 7 against Georgia Southwestern. The match starts from the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek at 10 a.m.
