No. 4 Nighthawks' Historic Season Continues With 17th Straight Win

DAHLONEGA – The No. 4 University of North Georgia women's tennis team extended its win streak to 17 matches with a 7-0 win over Georgia Southwestern Sunday morning. The Nighthawks did not lose a single set at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek en route to the victory. 

At 17-0, the win streak is the longest in program history for the women's tennis team. With five regular season matches left to play, the Nighthawks are just three wins away from marking the program's third ever 20-win season. It would be the first such season since 2019 when the team went 22-6 and advanced to the NCAA Div. II Championship in Altamonte Springs, Fla. 

The doubles portion of the contest took just 16 minutes as seniors Johanna Lippert and Viktorie Wojcikova won the #1 doubles match 6-0. Junior Carolina Reis and senior Valentina Asscarunz won the #3 doubles match at nearly the same time as they cruised to 6-0 win also. 

In the singles, ITA women's singles No. 17 Angelina Linnikova swept the #1 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win. The junior is now 15-2 in her singles matches this year. 

In the #2 singles competition, Wojcikova won 6-1, 6-2 to seal her 13th solo victory of the year. 

In the #5 and #6 singles, senior Svetlana Teterina and Ascarrunz each rolled to a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins.

With the match already clinched, Lippert picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win in the #3 singles spot while junior Ashley Moined won the #4 singles 6-2, 6-2. 

Now the Nighthawks look ahead to Hawaii Pacific who they'll face off against on Friday, Apr. 12 at 2 p.m. in Macon, Ga. UNG won't be back home in Dahlonega for a match until it takes on No. 14 Columbus State on Friday, Apr. 19.
