No. 4 Nighthawks Secure Highest Ranked Win Of Season 5-2 Over No. 7 West Alabama

ROME, Ga. – The No. 4 University of North Georgia women's tennis team remained undefeated Tuesday with a 5-2 non-conference win over No. 7 West Alabama at the Rome Tennis Center. The Nighthawks are now 15-0 heading into a pair of conference matches this weekend at No. 8 Flagler and home versus Georgia Southwestern.

Despite losing the #1 doubles match, UNG secured the lone doubles point early with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Senior Valentina Ascarrunz and junior Carolina Reis cleaned up the No. 3 doubles match with a 6-4 win. In the second line, seniors Viktorie Wojcikova and Johanna Lippert took down ITA women's doubles No. 37 Khim Iglupas and Heden Ly in a hotly contested 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point.

In the singles competition, the Nighthawks secured wins in the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 spots to claim their third ranked victory of the season.

Wojcikova defeated UWA's Shaira Rivera 6-3, 7-5 to win her 11th singles match this season while her doubles partner, Lippert, secured a close win in the No. 3 singles match with 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker), 6-3 victory over Heden Ly. The win marks Lippert's fifth consecutive singles victory as she is now 11-3 (with one unfinished match) this year.

Lippert's win clinched the match for UNG after junior Ashley Moinard cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles contest.

For good measure, Ascarrunz added a win during the No. 6 singles competition with a comeback victory over Hardija Vidnere. The senior from Santa Cruz, Bolivia dropped the first set 2-6 but responded with a 6-2 win in the second and a 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) win in the finale.

The team victory marks UNG's highest ranked win since beating No. 4 Hawaii Pacific on Feb. 26 of last season. Coincidentally, the Nighthawks will soon face Hawaii Pacific for the first time since last year's matchup on Apr. 12 in Macon, Ga.

First, UNG gets ready for a road match at No. 8 Flagler on Saturday, Apr. 6 scheduled for 10 a.m. from St. Augustine, Fla.
