UNG Uses Thrilling Doubles Comeback To Power 7-0 Victory Against LMU

DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia men's tennis team had a thrilling showing in the doubles portion of a 7-0 win over Lincoln Memorial Monday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.

The Nighthawks and Railsplitters split the opening pair of doubles matches to begin the contest.

Senior Joaquin Benoit and junior Robin Eldin took their match 6-2, while senior Thom Hermans and junior Harper Mills conversely won 6-2 for LMU. The lone doubles point hanging in the balance, would be decided in the final doubles match.

For UNG, sophomore Eliseo Alcalde and senior Christopher Cahour fell behind early. The duo trailed 5-2 against seniors William Jonsson and Nic Goslar.

However, poise and passion was on display from Alcalde and Cahour as the two won five games in a row to storm back and win the match 7-5, thus securing the lone doubles point for UNG.

Perhaps riding high from the comeback victory, the Nighthawks dominated in the singles. Not one UNG player lost a set in the singles portion.

Junior Robin Eldin, who was recently named the PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the league on Monday, won 6-0, 7-5 in his match. Eldin has been dominant in the singles portion this year having won all six matches he's played in, including 13 of 14 sets within those matches.

Cahour and Alcalde both won their singles setups in convincing fashion.

Cahour took down LMU junior Franco Battaglino 6-2, 6-3 while Alcalde defeated junior Harper Mills 6-3, 6-4 to put a bow on the contest.

At 6-0 this season, the Nighthawks will look to keep up the hot streak with a road win against Young Harris Thursday.

The match is set to begin from Young Harris, Ga. on Feb. 29 at 1 p.m.
