Late Flurry Pushes No. 7 Nighthawks to PBC Road Win at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Frank Champion connected on a reverse layup with just six seconds remaining in the game to put the No. 7 University of North Georgia men's basketball team up for good in a 71-70 Peach Belt Conference win over at Flagler on the road Saturday. The victory is the seventh consecutive for UNG as the Nighthawks remain a perfect 5-0 in road games.

North Georgia (11-1, 2-0 Peach Belt) had two players score in double figures and combine for 51 of the team's 71 points, led by AJ White, who had a game-high 30 points. Champion added 21 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

After falling behind 8-6, North Georgia went on a 9-0 run with 16:03 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Champion, to take a 15-8 lead. The Nighthawks then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-31.

Flagler kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 66-55 advantage before North Georgia went on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 66-63 with 1:55 to go in the contest. The Nighthawks kept the rally going and took the lead for good on Champion's layup for the win.

Until the final minute of the game, the Nighthawks' last lead was a the 11:22 mark of the first half following a three-pointer from Case Roach.

Cayden Charles also collected a game-high eight rebounds.

Malik Bryant led four Saints in double figures with a team-best 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor.

North Georgia returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 with a home Peach Belt Conference game against Georgia College & State University.
