DAHLONEGA – After tough outings in the first two games of the series, the No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team looked like vintage North Georgia, returning to form in a six-inning 10-2 run-rule victory to close out their three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Columbus State (30-12, 15-3 PBC).
Kristen Davis (W, 11-1) gave the potent CSU lineup problems from the start striking out nine batters in six innings of work. Every Nighthawk in the lineup recorded a hit putting up ten runs in the second consecutive game,.
Sophie Mooney led North Georgia in run production, tallying four RBIs, highlighted by a three-run shot in the sixth to put UNG one run away from the knockout blow.
Hannah Forehand followed Mooney in the lineup, sending a solo shot to right field to deliver the final run.
Georgia Blair and
Gracie Mixson added power to the eight and nine spots in the order, both earning two RBIs on a pair of two-run home runs.
Jolie Lester put the Nighthawks in scoring situations from the leadoff spot, scoring twice on two hits.

The Nighthawks look to pick up momentum, returning to action with a doubleheader on Tuesday (Apr. 11) against Auburn-Montgomery (25-12), set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The Nighthawks and the Warhawks will meet for the 10th and 11th time in program history, with AUM taking four straight in the regular season before UNG took an 8-0 victory at the 2022 NCAA DII National Championships in their last meeting.
