Game Recap: Softball |

No. 1 North Georgia Splits Doubleheader Against AUM

DAHLONEGA – In their fifth game in three days, the No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team split their doubleheader against Auburn-Montgomery. The Nighthawks took the first game 4-3 in extra innings before dropping the second game by the same score, falling 4-3 in the regulation seven innings.

North Georgia, 4 AUM, 3
Both teams remained scoreless for the first three innings before AUM jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead in the fourth. The Nighthawks battled back in the bottom of the fifth, answering with two runs of their own to even the score at 2-2. In the ninth inning, AUM would add one run in the top half, but North Georgia would add two in the bottom of the ninth to take the one-run victory.

Neither side managed many hits, with UNG leading in that category 5 to 4. Gracie Mixson's single up the middle in the fifth proved the biggest one, sending home Sydney Blair and Olivia Sinquefield. Sinquefield broke the all-time career stolen base record in the game, taking her 80th career steal and passing former UNG speedster Meagan May.

Tybee Denton (W, 13-0) earned the win after throwing all nine innings, allowing no earned runs on just four hits. North Georgia, 3 AUM, 4
The Nighthawks lineup managed nine hits in the contest while allowing just four by AUM but couldn't convert those hits into enough runs falling by one after the Warhawks earned the game-winning run in the top of the sixth.

North Georgia took a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but AUM tied it up at three in the fourth inning before the Warhawks took the lead in the sixth inning. Hannah Forehand led the Nighthawks lineup, tallying three hits in four at-bats. Georgia Blair joined Forehand in the multi-hit club, capturing two hits in three trips to the plate and adding an RBI.  Next Up
The Nighthawks take a much-needed break before the weekend and look to reset heading into the end of their regular season. North Georgia will face Georgia College on the road for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against the Bobcats beginning at noon with a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 15).
