No. 2 Nighthawks Complete Series Sweep Over USC Aiken

DAHLONEGA – Two solid performances in the circle gave the No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team two wins in their 8-1, 7-0 victories over USC Aiken in its Saturday Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

North Georgia, 8 USC Aiken, 1
Kristen Davis (5-1) came out firing in the game, striking out four of the first nine batters faced on her way to 10 strikeouts in her seven innings pitched. Davis allowed just one run on five hits on her way to her fifth victory of the season.

The North Georgia bats started slow, but a five-run fifth inning gave Davis the run support needed, finishing with eight runs scored. Mariah Wicker finished with two hits in three at-bats leading the team in RBIs with three.

Jolie Lester continued to anchor the leadoff spot for the Nighthawks, driving in two runs on two hits in her four trips to the plate. Sydney Blair began to make her case for a second consecutive PBC Freshman of the Week award, earning a hit in each plate appearance. North Georgia, 4 USC Aiken, 0
Another win for Delaney Heaberlin (6-0) highlighted the Nighthawks' second game of the day, with Heaberlin throwing a complete game shutout, striking out four batters and allowing just four hits.

Jolie Lester finished with another two hits in three at-bats and Sophie Mooney got rolling in the second game finishing with two hits of her own. Hannah Forehand and Marycille Brumby added RBIs to the cause helping North Georgia reach the 20-win mark with the 4-0 victory.
