AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference has named University of North Georgia men's golfer
Evan Thompson as the conference's Men's Golfer of the Week. Thompson helped lead the Nighthawks to victory at the Hurricane Invitational this week as UNG took home its second tournament title this season.
Thompson finished in a tie for second place at the loaded Hurricane Invitational on Tuesday. The junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., shot rounds of 67-73-70 to finish at six-under 210, just one stroke out of the lead.
His opening round 67 featured eight birdies and led the field with 17 birdies in the tournament. The 67 is also tied for the second-lowest round (relative to par) in the PBC this season. Thompson now has five top-10s and two top-fives in six events this year and leads the PBC with a 71.06 stroke average.
