No. 1 North Georgia Rolls Past Augusta in Doubleheader Sweep

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team flexed their offensive production to complete their three-game Peach Belt Conference series sweep over Augusta (13-13, 0-9 PBC). The Nighthawks worked quickly in the day's first game, rolling to a 12-1 victory. In the second game, the Nighthawks used a late spree of runs to take a 17-1 win in the series finale.

North Georgia, 12 Augusta, 1
Tybee Denton (7-0) pitched all five innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight. The run production followed with the Nighthawks scoring two runs in the second and three in the third to take a 5-0 lead. A four-run top of the fourth made it 9-0, with Augusta's lone run coming in the bottom half. UNG added another three runs in the fifth to secure the 12-1 run-rule victory.

Hannah Forehand and Gracie Mixson each put on over the fence to get the scoring started, with Forehand driving in a career-high six runs. Nine Nighthawks recorded hits as Sophie Mooney joined Mixson and Forehand in the multi-hit club, with all three Nighthawks finishing with two hits.

Madison Cosgrove added two RBIs by way of a triple in her lone plate appearance in the first game. Mariah Wicker and Marycille Brumby each added RBI doubles for the Nighthawks. North Georgia, 17 Augusta, 1
A close 1-1 game in the third inning quickly moved in favor of the Nighthawks as North Georgia opened the door in the fifth with four runs before exploding for 12 runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Olivia Sinquefield broke the tie in the top of the fifth before Madison Simmons, and Wicker hit back-to-back shots to make it a 5-1 lead. That would be just the beginning for the Nighthawks' bats as they would match the first game's total in the top of the sixth.

Forehand would add to an already successful day, driving in four runs to bring her RBI total to 10 in the two games combined. Simmons added four RBIs of her own, using the fifth-inning homerun and a sixth-inning single to drive in two runs. Wicker's three hits in the game led the team, driving in three runs in her four at-bats. Mooney earned two hits in three trips to the plate, driving in two runs.

Delaney Heaberlin (9-0) pitched five and one-third innings, allowing one run on four hits as she kept the Nighthawks tied at one before the offense followed. Next Up
North Georgia will host Georgia Southwestern (20-5, 6-0 PBC) for a three-game PBC series versus the Hurricanes.
