DAHLONEGA – The No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team completed its three-game sweep of USC Beaufort (5-6, 0-3 PBC) with a 5-2 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Sand Sharks at Haines & Carolyn Hil Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Nighthawks move to 15-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Peach Belt Conference standings.
Mariah Wicker was a key contributor at the plate, driving in two RBIs on two hits. One of Wicker's two hits was a two-run home run in the second inning to give UNG a 2-0 lead.
Sophie Mooney (3-0) earned a win, throwing six innings, allowing just three hits and two runs. Mooney helped herself at the plate with two hits in three at-bats, scoring once.
Mooney and Wicker were among two other Nighthawks with two hits in the game, with
Jolie Lester and
Sydney Blair each finding a hole twice in the game.
A three-run fifth inning was the difference highlighted by a RBI double from Blair and a two RBI triple from Wicker.

North Georgia will host Shorter (4-13, 1-5 Gulf South) for an afternoon non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 1) beginning at 1:00 p.m. It will be the 21st meeting all-time between the two programs. Shorter is coming off a series loss against Mississippi College over the weekend.
