No. 2 Nighthawks Cruise Past Shorter in Midweek Doubleheader

DAHLONEGA – The No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team earned two non-conference victories over Shorter at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park, outscoring the Hawks 28-8 in the two wins. The Nighthawks opened the day with an 11-3 victory and then closed out the afternoon with a 17-5 victory.

Jolie Lester had a solid outing at the plate in the first game, getting three hits in three at-bats. Sophie Mooney, Georgia Blair and Marycille Brumby all had two RBIs on one hit in the game, with 16 Nighthawks getting an at-bat.

Delaney Heaberlin (5-0) earned the win, throwing three innings, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out two. Aniston Wright came in for relief to finish the final two innings. 

North Georgia, 17 Shorter, 5
Hannah Forehand and Mariah Wicker led the way for UNG, each driving in three runs. Forehand had three hits on three at-bats while scoring two runs. Wicker had a single and a double in two at-bats, scoring one run. Mooney continued her momentum at the plate, recording two hits in her two at-bats and driving in two runs.

Kristen Davis (4-1) picked up her fourth win of the year, pitching three innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out two.

Next Up
The Nighthawks will host USC Aiken (5-12, 2-1 PBC) for a three-game Peach Belt Conference weekend series on March 3-4.
