No. 3 Nighthawks Get Midweek Sweep Over West Georgia

DAHLONEGA – Another shutout, their seventh in 13 games, opened up the No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team's doubleheader sweep over West Georgia at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park. Tybee Denton (4-0) threw all five innings, allowing just one hit and no runs in UNG's 9-0 victory in the first game. The offense found a rhythm in the second game's final three innings, scoring six of their eight runs to end the game with an 8-3 victory to complete the sweep.

North Georgia 9, West Georgia 0
Denton's complete game shutout had plenty of run support, highlighted by a two-run shot by Hannah Forehand in the first inning. Georgia Blair led the team in RBIs, using a sacrifice fly in the third and a two-run double in the fourth to finish with three.

Olivia Sinquefield scored three runs in the game, reaching base on each trip to the plate with two hits and one walk.

North Georgia 8, West Georgia 3
A Sinquefield single in the first and Mariah Wicker's first home run since 2020 in the second opened the scoring for UNG. Wicker led the team from the plate, finishing with two hits and a walk, scoring three runs for the Nighthawks. Six Nighthawks finished with one RBI as Jolie Lester, Madi Perry, Forehand, Sinquefield, Wicker and Blair all took turns adding to the North Georgia lead.

Delaney Heaberlin (4-0) earned her fourth win of the season finishing with one earned run and five hits allowed in four and two thirds innings pitched. Sophie Mooney came in for relief, allowing one run on one hit while striking out three. 

Next Up
The Nighthawks will host USC Beaufort (5-4) for their Peach Belt Conference opener, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 25). It is the first matchup between the two programs, with USCB playing in their first PBC game in program history.
