DAHLONEGA — Four double-digit scorers and a relentless defensive effort led the University of North Georgia men's basketball team to an 83-67 victory over Young Harris in the finale of the Southeast Region Crossover at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center. The Nighthawks got off to a hot start, never trailing in the game to move to 2-0 this season.
AJ White led the team in points, scoring 21 points and adding six assists, making three of his five field goal attempts beyond the arc.
Frank Champion was a catalyst for an efficient shooting night, shooting perfect from the floor, making seven shots on seven attempts.
Champion added ten rebounds and five assists while teammate
Eric Jones also shot perfect from the floor, making all six of his attempts from the field, picking up five rebounds on the defensive end.
Cayden Charles was the fourth Nighthawk in double-digit scoring, logging 10 points and six rebounds, adding a block and a steal.
North Georgia featured complimentary basketball in the game, making the difference on the offensive end by making key defensive stops, helping to facilitate the offense in transition. The Nighthawks held a 20-point lead at halftime after holding YHC to just five points in the first 10 minutes of the game.
The Mountain Lions would attempt to battle back, but a stingy effort in the defensive end kept them out of striking distance. Next for North Georgia is a road trip to Wise, Va., for a non-conference tilt with UVA Wise on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 2:00 p.m. UVA Wise is 1-1 on the season falling 100-99 to Lees Mcrae in their last outing.
